Position management (i.e. the process by which departments determine how many positions are needed within an organizational structure and how positions are created, structured and altered) is a critical aspect of workforce planning and budgetary management at the University. Many position changes require approval of or notification to the Office of the Provost. For detailed guidance, please see the charts below for staff in administrative units and in academic units, respectively.
The process described below is applicable to all administrative and academic units requesting changes to HR staff positions.
This approval/notification process is distinct from the process for securing funding for position changes. That process should follow existing budgetary policies and guidance shared by the Office of the Provost.
