TJ Lunardi joined the Provost’s Office on March 30, 2020 as the inaugural Director of our new Global Safety and Security unit (GSS).
TJ comes to us most recently from Microsoft where he was Director of Global Readiness and Opportunity. Prior to that he was Director of Intelligence and Crisis Management at the Starbucks Corporation. Before moving to the private sector, TJ spent 15 years in the Diplomatic Security Service of the U.S. State Department where he served in Ukraine, United Kingdom, Germany, and Iraq, as well as on the staffs of the Secretary and the Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security. He began his career as a Political Officer at the US Embassy in Amman, Jordan. TJ grew up near Philadelphia and completed his undergraduate education at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service.
GSS will serve as a hub and first point-of-contact for Princeton travelers and academic and administrative units that sponsor international activities. The work of GSS will include global intelligence and risk analysis, traveler preparation and education, and incident and crisis response. The creation of this new unit is one of the key recommendations that came out of a comprehensive review of the University’s international health and safety efforts completed by Control Risks in 2018.
