Bio/Description

Jeffrey Oakman joined the Provost’s Office in September 2024 to lead the effort to create an AI Hub at Princeton. Working closely with partners across the University, and with leadership in the Governor’s Office and the NJ Economic Development Authority, he will manage the effort to stand up an interdisciplinary institute to help establish Princeton and New Jersey at the forefront of AI innovation. The AI Hub will promote advanced research in the field, drive regional economic growth and talent development in the tech sector, guide government and public entities on AI utilization, and seed the formation of new start-ups while providing the tools to enable existing industries to capitalize on the AI revolution.

Previously Jeffrey served Governor Murphy’s Administration for five years as a Senior Policy Advisor, with a portfolio including economic development and planning, housing, workforce development, and innovation policy. His career both in government and in the nonprofit and private sectors has focused on using creative financing to realize impactful economic and community development projects. He graduated from Rice University and holds a Master's in Public Affairs and Urban/Regional Planning from Princeton University SPIA, where he also worked as an Associate Director in the Graduate Program Office from 2016 to 2019.
